about

this song started as a poem i wrote on an airplane

lyrics

on an airplane over the ocean
is this windblown water a metaphor
about moving and being still
or is it just endless and perfect and
terrifying

or is that just what we get
the california coastline like a warm blanket
the ocean tosses and turns in her sleep
and so do we
what does the ocean dream of
of spills and spells and
tectonics

the suburbs look funny from the air
and from the ground
southern california might be the worst place on earth

whoever invented freeways should be shot
and his body tossed in the dry river that the freeways cross
and maybe his blood would help bring back some life
but i doubt it
